A Poem for the Spiritual Disciplines

"True freedom reveals itself on the other side of disciplined commitment." - Dr. Taylor Sandlin, Southland Baptist Church, San Angelo, TX

You call it a routine;
I call it liturgy.
You say it is a rut,
I say it is a way.
You call it slavery;
I call it liberty.

You say you're free to change;
I say I'm free to grow.
You say you can move out;
I say I can reach down.
You say your world is wide;
I say my world is deep.

You say you do new things;
I say old things grow new.
You say you trust your heart;
I say I build a heart.
You look toward what comes next;
I look to things that last.
